The Still Sealcoating legacy began in 1996 when the owner of TNT Asphalt discovered Nate Schoenborn playing basketball in a park and he offered him a job. Nate’s younger brother Eric joined him a year later and they worked together at TNT Asphalt for several years, learning and perfecting the double brush sealcoating method. Because of a change in management, both Nate and Eric left TNT in the summer of 2000 to pursue other avenues. Both brothers attended UW-Whitewater in the fall of 2000 and it appeared that their sealcoating days were over.
In the summer of 2001, Eric was looking for work and recognized a great opportunity when he saw a sealcoating tank for sale on the side of the road. He purchased the tank and trailer, along with a pickup truck, and Super Sealers was born. By sealcoating friends’ driveways and knocking on doors, Eric was able to stay busy, pay off the equipment, and earn a little extra money as well.
In 2002, Nate got the entrepreneurial itch and together, Nate and Eric performed the majority of work as the business grew over the next five years. Significant events during this time included: the purchase of B&D Asphalt in 2005 and changing our name to Still Sealcoating in 2006. We decided to change our name because there was another Super Sealers in Wales, WI and it was causing a lot of confusion. Because they were able to incorporate before us, and to save on costly legal and advertising fees, we chose to change our name. We knew that our quality wasn’t in our name; it was in the great services we provide. So we forged ahead and continued to grow the business as Still Sealcoating.
Another major change took place in 2007 as Eric decided to get out of the sealcoating business and the “cold business” and move to California full-time. He had spent several winters there in the past and just couldn’t resist the “fun in the sun” lifestyle. He is currently installing solar panels in and around LA and was recently promoted to foreman! He is also pursuing other ventures, mainly an invention he recently received a patent for called “Westcoast Streetboards”. You can learn more about this invention and follow his progress at www.westcoaststreetboards.com. We believe this is the next big thing in the skateboarding world and we look forward to his success!
Meanwhile, Nate continues to grow the business and his family. He currently lives in Whitewater with his sons Owen and Evan, their yellow lab Daisy and Jack the Cat. Daisy gave birth to eight beautiful lab puppies in the fall of 2010 and that added a lot of excitement to an already crazy household! Owen started kindergarten this past fall and Evan is working on new words every day!
Still Sealcoating has grown from one truck and trailer to 3 pickups and three tank/trailers along with a dump truck and roller which is used for patching and repair. This is a service that Still Sealcoating began offering in 2008. We have several highly trained employees who have been with us for several years and provide excellent services which allows Nate more time in the sales field and also with his family.
In the winter of 2010/2011, Still Sealcoating branched out into the real estate investment and property management business to add supplemental income in the winter months. Under the company names of Still Management and Still Consulting, we currently own 13 rental properties and manage over 40. We look forward to growing this phase of the business and branching out into other areas of real estate. If you have any interest in investing or have properties that need managing or need work, don’t hesitate to ask!
Thank for taking the time to read our story and we look forward to working with you in 2017 and beyond!
